I've been waiting for Flip's book since the very first book in this series, so to have his story be absolute last made this whole series feel sooooo full circle. I absolutely loved seeing all the couples and characters from previous books in the series (and interconnected books) make cameos, to the point where I loved seeing all of their growth more than Flip & Tally's. But those two...they had a LOT going on and a lot to go through.
In a world that felt so frantic and fast-moving, these two REAAAAAAAAALLY took their time. I'm a BIG fan of slow burn and Helena Hunting absolutely delivered on that front.
I'm not a HUGE age gap fan, especially when the older knew the younger prior to them turning 18, but I knew that going into this story. Tally is mature for her age and while working through her parents' fresh divorce, we learn how she was basically the other parent in lieu of her dad choosing his job over his family.
And while Tally works through that on top of finals and a big dance recital, she's getting closer to Flip. He's going through his own shit and heartbreak from a relationship long ago. The media dig up his past, putting Tally in a terrible spotlight that complicates things even further.
Overall, I love how these two handled not only their own conflicts, but learned to lean on one another for support through those things. They made a really good team and had the support of their collective friend group along the way.
Thank you Helena Hunting & team for early access!
